Bill and I got our first mastiff, Winston, right after we bought our house and fenced in our yard. We had went over different breeds and decided that a mastiff would be the perfect pet for us. So, when we saw an ad for mastiff puppies hanging at the local market we jumped at the opportunity. At the time we did not know enough about the standard, health testing and "proper" breeding practices. We were not looking to show or breed. All we wanted was to bring a puppy home.

From the day Winston came home our interest and desire to learn more about mastiffs exploded. We couldn? get enough! We started attending dog shows and educating ourselves on the breed. The mastiff bug got us!

Along with the fun, came the sad...As we learned more about the breed, we also started hearing stories and seeing tragic cases of dogs that came from backyard breeders or puppymills. It really hit us just how lucky we were - we ended up with a healthy and temperamentally sound dog. And, although Winston does not physically meet the mastiff standard, he has been a tried and true companion, who loves to love and be loved.

2 years after getting Winston, we decided it was time to add another mastiff to our family and we turned to mastiff rescue and began the process of adopting a brindle boy named Harley. He had had a rough life and we so desperately wanted to be his forever home. However, he had aggression issues with Winston. We did not want to give up on Harley, as he was a wonderful dog on his own. So we helped in his relocation to California, where he is now the only dog in a family that loves him very much!

Fate then intervened and helped us fill the void we felt after having to part with Harley, bringing Taylor and Nina to us!
All of the sudden we weren't just spectating at dogs shows!
